Porirua Living Without Violence Inc has been established since 1995. We have been working to enable our communities to live violence free by providing programmes that educate, support and empower.
We have always been a strong member of the social service sector and work in collaboration with Community Organisations. We are a member of the National Network of Stopping Violence Services -which is a nation-wide network of community based organisations working to prevent violence and abuse in New Zealand.
Porirua Living Without Violence has contracts with the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Social Development and the Department of Corrections to cover the Programmes we provide. These services are now delivered in Porirua, Upper Hutt, Lower Hutt and Wellington.
Porirua Living Without Violence operates and is managed as a collaboration between the two local Women’s Refuges. Our Organisation members are:
- Whare Manaaki Inc (General Women’s Refuge) Collective
- Te Whare Tiaki Wahine Refuge (Maori Women’s Refuge) Collective
Each member of these two organisations forms the Management Committee of Porirua Living Without Violence Inc. There are normally 35 -40 members at any given time and we have operated like this since 1995.
